Welcome to the University of Kansas's Global Indigenous Nations Studies program. Established in 1999, the Program offers an interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree which prepares students to continue on to doctoral study or to work in the fields of law and government, healthcare, cultural preservation as well as in Native communities and organizations. The Program offers a unique mix of challenging academics, internships, and graduate exchange program that prepare students for both real world situations and intensive graduate study.

Students can choose from several areas of specialization, for example: Tribal Policy and Governance; Environmental Science and Resource Management; Language Preservation; Health; Indigenous Nations of Latin America; and Cultural Preservation Management with a thesis/non-thesis option. Our small class sizes allow for individualized attention and mentoring from our highly qualified faculty. The Program also possesses long standing relationships with Haskell Indian Nations University and the Tribal Law and Government Center at the University of Kansas, School of Law.
The graduate students' group, Global Indigenous Nations Studies Students Association (GINSSA) is an active part of our program and represents more than 39 Indian nations. They meet bi-weekly to plan study groups, socials, and fund raisers. They also provide student representation on the Program’s executive, curriculum, and recruitment committees.
